Celebrating Eva Jessee and Kali Holt as Nurses of the Week

Mother-daughter duo Eva Jessee and Kali Holt have emerged as the Nurses of the Week in a heartwarming story of resilience and dedication. Their inspiring journey through nursing showcases their individual strengths and highlights the power of family support in pursuing a shared passion for healthcare.

A Journey Born From Inspiration

The path to nursing for Holt began at the tender age of 14, sparked by the health struggles faced by both her parents. “My mom and dad both of them were experiencing health issues at the same time. My dad was hit by a driver who was under the influence of cocaine, and then my mom went into postpartum cardiomyopathy, which is a rare form of heart failure,” Holt shares. These personal experiences ignited her passion for nursing, leading her to graduate high school at 15 and pursue her LPN.

Holt’s journey didn’t stop there. After recovering from heart failure, Jessee joined her daughter in this noble profession. “I got my LPN, and she got her LPN and recovered from heart failure, so I asked her to come to the nursing school at ETSU for the LPN, RN bridge,” Holt explains. In 2021, the duo embarked on a challenging yet rewarding fifteen-month journey together, earning their bachelor’s degrees in nursing from Eastern Tennessee State University (ETSU).

Committing to Continued Growth

But their ambition didn’t end with their bachelor’s degree. Jessee and Holti reflected on their experiences and decided to continue their education, aiming for nurse practitioner degrees at ETSU. “We took some time and reflected on where we wanted to be and how we wanted to do it. We developed a love for ETSU, and we decided to stay here and finish out our nurse practitioner,” Jessee shared. Their commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth is a shining example for aspiring nurses everywhere.

Power of Mutual Support

The bond between Jessee and Holt is not just familial; it’s a powerful partnership that helps them navigate the challenges of nursing school. “We couldn’t do what we do without each other. We study together, we work together, we do so much together because we believe where iron sharpens iron,” Holt says. They challenge each other in areas of weakness, ensuring they grow stronger as individuals and as a team.

A Vision for the Future

As they look ahead to their graduation in December 2025, Jessee and Holt have big plans for their future as nurse practitioners. “What is our end goal would be to create some kind of crisis center, where nurses and trained medical professionals who know how to handle intellectual disabilities, or mental health issues, or people when they’re under the influence of drugs or alcohol, would respond with law enforcement,” Holt elaborates. This vision reflects their dedication to the nursing profession and their commitment to addressing critical healthcare needs in their community.

Impact on Community

Eva Jessee and Kali Holt exemplify the spirit of nursing through their shared journey, mutual support, and dedication to making a difference in the lives of others. Their story is a testament to the importance of family, education, and the profound impact that nurses can have on their communities. As they continue their path toward becoming nurse practitioners, we look forward to seeing the incredible contributions they will undoubtedly make in healthcare.
