Heather Perné, NP is a wound and vascular nurse practitioner with a special interest in heritable thoracic aortic disease, such as Marfan syndrome and Loeys-Dietz syndrome, as well other heritable connective tissue disorders including the 13 types of Ehlers-Danlos syndromes. She is passionate about educating on these conditions as the knowledge can help save lives as well as improve quality of life for those who go undiagnosed for years, sometimes decades. She lives in Toledo, Ohio with her husband and son. Robert Pena, MD, MEng. is a senior Emergency Medicine Resident Physician at George Washington University Hospital and will begin his training as a Critical Care - Anesthesia Fellow at the University of Michigan this summer. His personal experience with Marfan Syndrome has inspired him to work closely with the Marfan Foundation and related interest groups, as well as to pursue a lifelong research interest in connective tissue disorders, acute aortic syndrome, and their management in the Emergency Department and critical care settings.
