Kaiser Permanente nurses in Los Angeles began a 7 day strike to protest the inadequate wage increases and staff ratios proposed by the hospital. Approximately 95% of nurses, or 1,200 RNs, are participating in the walkout. In July of 2015, Kaiser Permanente nurses joined the California Nurses Association union to help advocate for improved pay in their contract negotiations.
Kaiser has offered its nurses a wage increase that is “at least 15 percent higher than the market in Southern California” said Patti Clausen, chief nurse executive at Kaiser’s L.A. Medical Center. Hospitals officials and nursing leads have ensured that while the nurses union is protesting, nurses are available in case there’s an emergency that Kaiser needs to address.
