Discovery Life Channel Will Celebrate National Nurses Day Tomorrow with Premiere of Two New Programs

National Nurses Day is tomorrow, May 6, which kicks off National Nurses Week through May 12. To celebrate National Nurses Day, the Discovery Life Channel announced the premiere of two new documentaries about the lives of nurses. First to premiere will be an hour-long documentary called The American Nurse which takes a look at America’s hardworking healthcare professionals. Following will be the premiere of docu-series Emergency, about the lives of nurses and those they help.

National Nurses Day is intended to raise awareness about the hard work of nurses and the important role they play in American healthcare as frontline caregivers. Discovery Life recognizes the tireless work that nurses around the world put in, and this year they decided to celebrate that hard work with two documentaries dedicated to nursing professionals. There are 3.4 million registered nurses in the United States currently, and each of them provides high-quality and compassionate care to their patients, striving to provide the best care possible.

Discovery Life’s premiere will begin with The American Nurse which explores major issues facing America today: aging, war, poverty, and prisons. These issues will be explored through the lives of five working nurses including a Director of Nursing at a nursing home where animals are used as a therapeutic tool; a military nurse who works with the VA San Diego Health System; a Labor and Delivery Nurse from Johns Hopkins; a nurse from Kentucky who cares for patients from a region plagued by poverty, drug addiction, and industrial pollution; and the nursing director of an inmate hospice program.

Discovery Life will premiere the two documentaries at 9/8c and 10/9c respectively.
