Penn Nursing’s Barbara Medoff-Cooper, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been selected for induction into the International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame by Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI).
The STTI Hall of Fame was developed to recognize nurse researchers for their lifetime achievements in and contributions to research and to mentoring future nurse researchers. Medoff-Cooper was selected for her pioneering research work in infant development, feeding behaviors in high-risk infants, and infant temperament which has had a national and international impact on the care of preterm infants.
Dr. Medoff-Cooper is the developer of the Early Infancy Temperament Questionnaire, which is used across the globe. The questionnaire provides an assessment of temperament during the first year of life and is specifically geared to infants younger than 4 months old. The EITQ is a 76-item parent questionnaire for assessing the nine New York Longitudinal Study temperament characteristics in 1- to 4-month-old infants.
This tool has helped provide researchers and clinicians with a reliable assess temperament to understand clinical problems in infants.
