The newly named National Nurse-Led Care Consortium (NNCC) has been working tirelessly with its partners to have nurse-led care recognized as a critical component to the delivery of primary and preventive care in the US. Originally named the National Nursing Centers Consortium, the NNCC is a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting nurse-led care as a quality solution to health care needs.
Nurse-led care is changing, and not just in clinical settings. Nurse-led models of care and practice are being developed and implemented across the country, and the NNCC’s new name was created to reflect these important changes. The NNCC is focused on the policies and economics behind nurse-led health care, especially policies for advanced practice nurses. Nurse practitioners and other advanced practice nurses should be able to practice to the full extent of their education and licensure, and the NNCC will advocate for their advanced roles and capabilities in providing care.
With more and more nurses finding themselves in business and leadership roles, the NNCC’s new branding is very appropriate. Advanced practice nurses combine their clinical and care coordination skills with a holistic, patient-centered approach that is central to the model of nursing care, making these nursing leaders well-suited for developing and implementing value-focused and evidence-based initiatives in response to nationwide community needs. The NNCC will continue to be leader in healthcare delivery innovation, convening thought leaders and influencers nationally and globally, and providing consultation services for developing top notch models of nurse-led care.
Along with their recent name change, the NNCC has been named a founding partner in the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative which is the first federally funded quality improvement initiative for nurse practitioners. With help from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the NNCC has established a new Nurse Practitioner Support and Alignment Network, offering resources that will enable nurse practitioners to transform their practices, increase quality improvement capacity, and shift to value-based payment structures.
