Basic description

A urology nurse specializes in the care of patients who have urologic conditions such as kidney stones, urinary tract infections, and cancers. They work in either inpatient or outpatient units. Aside from providing direct care, they also educate patients on preventing recurrences of acute conditions and avoiding complications.

Educational requirements

Registered nurse license and Basic Life Support certification are required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing is highly preferred; certification is offered by the Certification Board for Urologic Nurses.

â–  Must possess a solid knowledge of the male and female urinary tract and reproductive systems, pathophysiology, and treatments
