The University of Rhode Island has named Barbara Wolfe, the associate dean for research and professor at the Connell School of Nursing at Boston College, to lead its School of Nursing starting this summer.
Wolfe started at BC in 2004 as a professor and rose to serve as the Director for the Center for Nursing Research before moving onto her current role as Associate Dean for Research. In this position she helped provide strategic leadership, direction, and support for all activities related to research initiatives in the nursing school; while maintaining her research focus on the psychobiology of eating disorders.
Wolfe starts at an interesting growth period for the URI School of Nursing. This past September, the University of Rhode Island launched a new accredited online nursing degree for a Registered Nurse-to-Bachelor of Science in Nursing (R.N. to B.S.) degree program. The school has already begun expanding their program by partnering with the Community College of Rhode Island. Under the partnership, nursing students in their final semester at CCRI will be guaranteed admission into the University of Rhode Island’s bachelor of science in nursing degree program.
Wolfe will succeed Mary Sullivan, who has served as interim dean of nursing since 2012.
