Nurse of the Week: Nurses’ Husband Goes Viral with “My Wife is a Nurse; My Wife is a Hero” Facebook Tribute

Philip Urtz took to Facebook to thank his wife Jessica, a stroke nurse who regularly works 14-hour days. His tribute to her begins with,

“This is my wife Jessica having dinner after a 14 hour day. She comes home from work, has enough time to eat and get ready for bed and it’s back to work the next day for another shift.”

Urtz’ post is a true celebration of Jessica and all other nurses who spend their days dedicated to saving people – true heroes.

Like most nurses, Urtz recognizes that Jessica spends her days comforting people who might be “having the worst days of their lives,” working through lunch and rarely having a free moment to even sit down while taking care of others for 14 hours. When Jessica comes home after a long shift, she simply wants to take off her shoes that have walked through blood and tears, and sit down.

This post was inspired by a similar one from Bobby Wesson who recognized his own wife – also a nurse – for how dedicated she is to her job. Wesson’s post features a picture of his wife taking a nap with their young child before she gets up to “put on her scrubs and get ready for work.” Thanking his wife for all of the time and effort she puts into caring for people every day, Wesson says, “She will take care of you…Sometimes she will laugh until she cries and sometimes she will just cry. But regardless of those sometimes, she will be on time for her next shift.”

Both men ended their posts with the beautiful statement, “My wife is my hero.” Their posts quickly gained attention with people flooding the comments to thank the men for their kind words of affirmation or to pass on more thanks to their wives for their hard work. With comments like “Nursing is the most under-appreciated job out there” and “As a nurse, I know what an amazing human being your wife is – I thank her for that,” Urtz and Wesson have created a beautiful shoutout to nurses everywhere, bringing more dedication and light to the wonderful and difficult profession of nursing.

Thank you to Jessica, our Nurse of the Week, and her husband Philip for his tribute and thanks to nurses everywhere.
